Accountabilities

As an Engineer III, you will take ownership of software development initiatives while contributing to the reliability, scalability, and continuous improvement of content management systems. Your responsibilities will include:

Own and deliver software features and well-defined technical projects from initial discussions through production deployment.

Design, develop, and maintain reliable backend applications and services supporting content uploads, processing, metadata management, storage, and distribution.

Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code that meets engineering standards and supports long-term system reliability.

Collaborate with Lead and Senior Engineers through technical discussions, pair programming, code reviews, and problem-solving sessions.

Investigate production incidents, identify root causes, implement effective fixes, and improve systems to prevent recurring issues.

Contribute to the evolution of engineering practices by identifying opportunities to improve development processes, architecture, and technical solutions.

Experiment with AI-powered development tools and agents to support code generation, testing, and review while applying independent technical judgment.

Work with human and AI-assisted content review systems to support efficient and reliable marketplace operations.

Participate in technical decision-making, balancing implementation quality, maintainability, performance, and delivery requirements.

Take initiative, share ideas, and contribute to a collaborative engineering culture focused on continuous learning and improvement.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have solid software engineering experience, strong backend development capabilities, and a genuine interest in technical excellence. You should be comfortable taking ownership of development tasks, collaborating with experienced engineers, and continuously expanding your technical expertise. Key qualifications include:

A few years of professional software engineering experience, with the ability to independently deliver features and technical projects.

Strong backend development skills and experience building and maintaining software applications.

Experience with Ruby on Rails or a comparable backend framework.

Good understanding of clean code principles, software design practices, testing methodologies, and maintainable architecture.

Ability to make sensible technical trade-offs and develop reliable solutions that meet business and technical requirements.

Experience troubleshooting production issues, investigating root causes, and implementing sustainable fixes.

Familiarity with software testing and quality assurance practices.

Interest in AI-assisted software development, including the practical use of AI agents for coding, testing, and code reviews.

Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs and apply sound engineering judgment rather than relying on automated suggestions without validation.

Strong problem-solving skills, curiosity, and willingness to learn new technologies and approaches.

Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside senior engineers and cross-functional colleagues.

A proactive mindset, strong sense of ownership, and enthusiasm for contributing ideas beyond assigned development tasks.

Additional experience with the following technologies and environments would be advantageous:

AWS cloud infrastructure and services.

Terraform for infrastructure as code.

Docker and containerized application environments.

Buildkite for continuous integration and delivery.

Datadog and Rollbar for monitoring, observability, and error tracking.

Content-heavy platforms, content management systems, or large-scale digital marketplaces.
