Mechanical Engineer
Introduction
We’re expanding and have a fantastic opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join our mechanical and biomedical engineering department. We want to deepen and broaden the skills we already have in the group, and to add to its great culture. This role would suit someone in the early stages of their career, looking for their next step within an innovative company.
This team works predominantly across healthcare projects, and you will use your engineering skills at all stages of the development life-cycle, taking responsibility for design problems and technical questions.
There is no deadline for this role, as we recruit on a rolling basis. Once the position is filled, we will close the advert. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
What you’ll be doing
The majority of your time will be spent delivering exceptional mechanical engineering for our multi-national medical technology clients, understanding their requirements and communicating clearly and effectively. You will be hands-on in solving complex mechanical problems, often alongside other disciplines, within supportive project teams.
You will work on projects across a range of healthcare sectors, including medical devices, drug delivery, surgical systems and diagnostics instruments. The technical problems we tackle are ground-breaking, innovative and make a real difference to the landscape of medical technology.
You will guide aspects of the mechanical development and define technical solutions, using your experience to design systems and parts for manufacture by applying real-world knowledge. Your work is likely to include:
- First-principles engineering analysis
- Concept generation and the development of engineering designs
- Rapid prototyping
- Hands-on testing and experimentation, including the design and execution of test programmes
- Detailed design for manufacture and assembly, and liaising with suppliers
- Presenting results, both internally and to clients
- Preparing technical reports and producing high-quality documentation
Our culture encourages team members to take on the level of responsibility that suits them. You will have the opportunity to significantly develop your skills and career, learn from others and make a substantial impact on our projects.
We are keen to support the development of our employees, and as such offer an extensive in-house training program. As you advance within the organisation there will be plenty of opportunities for you to develop your technical skills and specialism, take on more responsibility for guiding projects and teams and/or focus more on supporting the development of sales opportunities.
What you can bring
You’ll bring strong mechanical engineering ability and enthusiasm to the role. You will deliver high-quality work on client projects, to specification and to timelines. You will be responsible for delivering the tasks you’re assigned, and for defining tasks for yourself and often for others.
To be successful in this role, we would expect you to have the following skills and experience:
- An undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related subject such as Biomedical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Mechatronics) or equivalent experience
- Design engineering industry experience, for example (but not limited to) high proficiency in CAD (e.g. SolidWorks), design analysis, structural analysis, rapid prototyping, technical drawings, design for manufacture and design for assembly
- A proven track record of working in a diverse team and of successful delivery
- A creative and methodical approach to problem-solving and concept generation
- Strong written and verbal communication
In addition, the following would be of interest to us. However, if you don’t yet have experience in these areas, we will gladly train and develop the right person, so please still apply!
- Experience in a consulting environment
- Experience in medical device development, or other regulated product development
- Familiarity with modelling and simulation tools such as Python/MATLAB, CFD and FEA
