Software Rotation Program Associate
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Alarm.com Software Rotation Program is a structured, cohort-based experience designed for exceptional early-career engineers who want to build deep technical expertise across Alarm.com's most strategic product areas. Over the course of three years, participants complete multiple technical and customer focused rotations before transitioning into a Software Engineer role.
This is not a traditional early-career role. We are looking for engineers who are intellectually curious, technically rigorous, and eager to contribute meaningfully from day one. Each rotation is a genuine team placement with real ownership — participants are embedded engineers, not observers.
A core principle of this program is building engineers who understand Alarm.com's customers as deeply as they understand the code. Participants will be intentionally exposed to customer-facing projects throughout their rotations — learning to evaluate technical decisions not just for correctness, but for the real-world impact they have on the millions of homeowners, businesses, and service providers who rely on Alarm.com every day.
This position is part of a cohort-based program. To ensure all participants begin rotations together and receive a consistent onboarding and development experience, employment for all cohort members begins on a single, unified start date.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Across all rotations, program participants will:
- Design, implement, and test new software features with full engineering ownership
- Contribute to the innovation and improvement of existing products and systems
- Analyze functional requirements and translate product specifications into quality software
- Research, evaluate, and integrate emerging technologies relevant to each rotation area
- Take ownership of assigned projects and drive them to completion on schedule
- Collaborate with QA, product, and cross-functional engineering teams on testing and deployment
- Deliver end-of-rotation presentations to leadership, demonstrating technical growth and business impact
- Engage with customer-facing product areas to develop a deep understanding of end-user needs — learning how engineering decisions directly shape the experience of Alarm.com's customers
- Apply a customer-first lens when designing and evaluating solutions, considering usability, reliability, and real world impact alongside technical correctness
- Participate in customer feedback reviews, product discussions, and cross-functional sessions that connect engineering work to the people it serves
- Other duties as assigned

- Passion for building high-quality consumer technology products
- Genuine curiosity about AI, IoT, and the intersection of software and hardware
