About the Role

Platform Science is looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our Core Product Development team in Chennai. In this role, you will be responsible for defining, developing, and executing robust manual and automated test suites across our web and mobile applications, ensuring our edge-to-cloud IoT solutions meet strict performance, stability, and quality standards.

You will play an integral role across the complete software development lifecycle—designing automated UI and API tests, driving exploratory test sessions, and identifying system malfunctions early. Additionally, you will coordinate seamlessly across time zones, collaborating closely with our distributed teams and stakeholders in both India and the US.

Essential Responsibilities (Measures of Success)

Full-Lifecycle Quality Assurance: Participate actively across all stages of product development, including new feature releases, platform upgrades, functional enhancements, performance testing, and defect resolution.

Test Automation & Execution: Design, build, and maintain scalable automated UI and API test frameworks for web applications and mobile platforms (iOS and Android).

Exploratory & Manual Testing: Execute rigorous exploratory tests on new features and bug fixes, blending manual validation with automated test suites.

Defect Lifecycle Management: Identify, document, isolate, and track software defects in Jira with thorough root-cause investigations, logs, and clear reproduction steps.

Cross-Timezone Collaboration: Proactively communicate project status, risks, and technical blockers; balance working hours between Indian and US time zones to attend client/sync calls and address critical production issues.

Continuous Improvement: Research, evaluate, and adopt industry best practices in Quality Engineering, test automation, and Continuous Integration (CI).

Target Capabilities & Skills

Experience: 3 to 5 years of professional experience as a Software QA Engineer or SDET.

Core Programming: Strong coding proficiency in Java; knowledge or experience with Kotlin or JavaScript is a significant advantage.

Mobile Test Automation: Proven hands-on experience authoring automated test scripts for native and hybrid mobile applications (iOS and Android) using Appium, Selenium, or WebdriverIO.

Compatibility Testing: Deep understanding of backward compatibility testing across varying operating system versions and device configurations.

Test Design Methodologies: Strong applied knowledge of test design techniques, including Equivalence Partitioning, Boundary Value Analysis, Decision Tables, and Use Case testing.

Agile QA Practices: Practical experience working with Behavior-Driven Development (BDD), Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, and exploratory testing patterns.

Other Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (equivalent practical QA engineering experience will be considered in place of a degree).

Communication: Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills to interact productively with engineering teams, leadership, and global stakeholders.

Analytical Mindset: Strong ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex architectural documents, technical specs, diagrams, and data models.
