OPSWAT, a global leader in IT, OT, and ICS critical infrastructure cybersecurity, delivers an end-to-end platform that gives public and private sector organizations and enterprises the critical advantage needed to protect their complex networks, secure their devices, and ensure compliance. Over the last 20 years our commitment to innovative technology has earned the trust of more than 1,700 organizations, governments, and institutions globally, solidifying our role in protecting the world’s critical infrastructure and securing our way of life.

The Position

We are looking for an Engineering Manager with the experience to lead a team through a phase of rapid change. This is a hands-on, technically-centric leadership role — not a pure people-management position — with full accountability for the engineering of the MetaDefender Email Gateway Security: architecture, delivery, quality, and the team that builds it.

You will have extensive experience of working within and defining an AI-Powered Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). Product Management defines what to ship; you define how to build it. You own the end-to-end delivery of the roadmap Product Management sets, hold the delivery bar, and with the support of the Director of Engineering build a high-performance culture the rest of OPSWAT’s engineering portfolio will look to as a model for AI-native development. You report to the Director of Engineering and lead a team in Hungary. This is a majority office-based role, located at our Veszprém office.

The Product: MetaDefender Email Gateway Security

MetaDefender Email Gateway Security is OPSWAT’s on-premises email security solution, trusted by governments and critical infrastructure operators to stop file-borne and email-borne threats before they reach the inbox. It is deployed worldwide to protect critical infrastructure from email borne threats before they reach end-users’ inboxes. Using the full suite of OPSWAT technologies, Email Gateway Security embodies our promise to provide consistent protection against file-based threats that a detection first strategy cannot.

This role will manage a team in Hungary responsible for the product and collaborate with teams developing other email security products at our Romanian office and worldwide.

What You Will be Doing

  • Lead as an AI-first effort: make AI agents a first-class part of how the team works — orchestrating agents to create specs, generate code and tests, verify results, and run reviews — while ensuring humans own and validate every line that ships. Treat automation and intelligence as the default, not the exception.
  • Be hands-on: remain directly in the codebase — writing and reviewing critical code, prototyping, and helping the team unblock hard technical problems. You lead not just by delegating but also by doing.
  • Own day-to-day delivery of the roadmap: take full ownership of delivering the product roadmap set by Product Management — helping turning the “what to ship” into the “how to build,” and owning execution sequencing, technical risk, quality, security, and release across Email Gateway Security.
  • Build and lead a high-performance team: Assist the Director of Engineering to recruit, develop, and retain top engineers in Hungary; create clear career paths and norms for code quality and review; and build a culture where strong engineers want to stay and grow.
  • Hold a security-first quality bar: ensure that security related AI risks are mitigated and that human review remains at the heart of the development process.
  • Raise engineering velocity: continuously improve how your team works — CI/CD pipelines, AI-assisted development workflows, so the team ships faster and more reliably over time.
  • Partner cross-functionally: work shoulder-to-shoulder with the Director of Engineering and the Product Management team, Design, and security leaders — turning the product roadmap (the what) into engineering execution (the how), committing to scope and timelines, and pushing back clearly when trade-offs require it.
