Requirements

Oklo interns are required to:

  • Relocate or be available to work out of Santa Clara CA where Oklo Headquarters is located for the duration of the internship or out of one of our satellite locations in Denver, CO, Brooklyn, NY, Idaho Falls, ID, or Washington D.C.
  • Be available to work 30-40 hours per week between June 7, 2027 - August 20, 2027 (depending on the scope of work)
  • Be currently enrolled or recently (2027) graduated with a Bachelor's or Master's Degree from an accredited university

Intern Position Descriptions

Thermal Hydraulics Intern

The TH Intern will develop intermediate fidelity (IF) subchannel and high-fidelity computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models for applications in sodium fast reactors (SFRs). The project will involve comparisons between simulation results and experimental data. The exact topic will depend on interest and company needs but could cover fluid-structure interaction, turbulence model development, uncertainty quantification, or surrogate modeling.

Required Qualifications

  • Coursework in fluid mechanics and heat transfer
  • General reactor physics and systems analysis
  • Statistical methods and uncertainty quantification
  • Experience with 3-D CFD and meshing workflows
  • Proficiency in Python

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with advanced 3-D CFD concepts (large eddy simulation, fluid-structure interaction)
  • Familiarity with high-performance computing workflows and tools
  • Experience with MOOSE framework (SAS, RELAP, MOOSE subchannel)
  • Experience with legacy codes in FORTRAN or similar
  • Familiarity with statistics and reduced order modeling

Materials Intern

Working with members of Oklo’s Materials Team, will help with the selection and qualification of materials for use in nuclear reactor systems. Typical work duties include computational model development and implementation, engineering analysis, documentation, and interfacing with our fuel fabrication and engineering teams.

  • Key Responsibilities
  • Analyzing material performance across expected operating conditions
  • Developing new analysis methods to predict material behavior in service
  • Performing engineering analyses, including assessments of thermal performance, mechanical performance, safety performance, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Collaborating cross-functionally to provide technical feedback to quick-iterating computational teams.
  • Authoring technical reports using modern documentation tools and techniques
  • Required Qualifications
  • Experience working with and developing material behavior models
  • Experience with material characterization (material testing, metallography)
  • Background in nuclear, chemical, materials engineering, or equivalent
  • Motivated learner who is adept at efficiently summarizing literature
  • Bonus Qualifications
  • Experience with engineering simulation software, such as ANSYS or COMSOL
  • Coding or data analysis experience (e.g., Python or similar tools)

Mechanical Analyst Intern

This intern will contribute to the evaluation and optimization of mechanical components that are critical to Oklo’s advanced power plant designs. This position offers hands-on experience in applying engineering fundamentals, performing structural analysis, and integrating results into design iterations.

  • Key Responsibilities
  • Apply first-principles mechanics and strength of materials to support analysis of structural components
  • Assist in summarizing mechanical analysis results for design teams, highlighting key findings such as peak stresses, margins of safety, and potential design revisions
  • Support the development of technical documentation, ensuring clear and concise communication of assumptions, methods, and results
