Weld Engineer
About Mach Industries
Founded in 2023, Mach Industries is a rapidly growing defense technology company focused on developing next-generation autonomous defense platforms. At the core of our mission is the commitment to delivering scalable, decentralized defense systems that enhance the strategic capabilities of the United States and its allies. With a workforce of approximately 350 employees, we operate with startup agility and ambition.
Our vision is to redefine the future of warfare through cutting-edge manufacturing, innovation at speed, and unwavering focus on national security. We are dedicated to solving the next generation of warfare with lethal systems that deter kinetic conflict and protect global security.
The Role
Mach Industries is seeking a Weld Engineer to join our team in developing, qualifying, and scaling welding processes for next-generation defense platforms. In this hands-on role, you’ll help turn designs into reliable, manufacturable hardware, from early prototypes through production. As a Weld Engineer, you will play a key role in developing welded assemblies, refining processes, and optimizing designs for quality and production at scale. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, you’ll help bring the next wave of defense technologies from concept to deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, test, qualify, and implement welding processes and procedures from prototype builds through production.
- Partner with design and manufacturing engineers to develop weld joints and assemblies that meet performance and manufacturing requirements.
- Select welding processes, equipment, consumables, and parameters based on materials, design, and production needs.
- Work with production teams to troubleshoot weld defects, distortion, fit-up challenges, and process variation.
- Support weld qualification through mechanical testing, metallurgical evaluation, and review of inspection results.
- Establish weld quality requirements and coordinate with Quality on inspection and nondestructive examination.
- Develop and maintain welding procedures, work instructions, qualification records, and technical documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve weld quality, throughput, cost, and production scalability.
- Support new product development, manufacturing planning, and production-readiness activities.
- Support critical project milestones, including extended hours or weekend work as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in welding engineering, welding process development, or welding and fabrication in a manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with one or more welding processes, such as GMAW/MIG, GTAW/TIG, FCAW, SMAW, or laser welding.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, specifications, and welding procedures.
- Working knowledge of weld metallurgy, material weldability, heat input, distortion, and weld discontinuities.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with design, production, and quality teams to solve technical problems.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and technical documentation skills.
- Ability to meet eligibility requirements for access to information and technology subject to U.S. export control laws.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting aerospace, defense, propulsion, or other high-reliability products.
- Experience welding or developing procedures for stainless steel, aluminum, nickel alloys, or other specialty materials.
- Familiarity with applicable AWS, ASME, MIL, or ISO welding codes and standards.
- Experience with robotic or automated welding, weld fixtures, or production-line implementation.
- Familiarity with weld inspection and nondestructive examination methods.
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or another relevant welding certification.
Additional Requirements
- Available to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
