Private Wealth Advisors Intern - Summer 2027
Interns at IMA are a big deal! We understand how significant your decision on where to spend an internship is and what a positive experience can do to catapult your career. The best experiences provide true immersion in a company’s culture, access to and networking with senior leaders and industry experts, opportunities to apply what you learn through real work that drives real results, and a fun and engaging cohort to share the experience with!
With this in mind, we’ve crafted our program to allow you to engage directly in our values-driven culture through company, department, and cohort events, all while being challenged with a blend of learning programs, informative networking sessions with IMA associates, and opportunities to engage in department-specific work projects that have real-world impact for our clients, our business, and our associates.
As an intern, your time will be divided between a core program shared with the entire cohort and specialized work, projects, and programming tailored to the department you join.
The IMA Private Wealth team is excited to welcome a Wealth Management Intern to our 2027 summer program! You’ll work alongside financial planners and advisors, gain hands-on exposure to comprehensive financial planning, and help prepare materials that support our clients’ financial goals. Through guided projects and participation in the planning process, you’ll build practical knowledge across investments, retirement, tax, and estate planning.
Daily responsibilities will include:
- Support financial planners and advisors by gathering, organizing, and entering client information into financial planning tools.
- Assist with preparing financial plans and reviewing planning scenarios under the guidance of experienced team members.
- Observe and participate in client meetings, as appropriate, and assist with meeting preparation, notes, and follow-up.
- Support advisors and planners in tracking action items and coordinating planning-related implementation tasks.
- Assist with organizing and summarizing information from client tax returns and estate planning documents under team supervision.
- Research financial planning topics and industry developments to support team projects and client education materials.
- Build foundational knowledge of investments, retirement, tax, and estate planning through hands-on assignments and team learning opportunities.
- Assist with department projects and daily administrative tasks that support the team’s workflow and client service.
We’re proud of the success many of our former interns have had when they’ve pursued careers as IMA associates after graduation and see our internship program as a key talent pipeline. Because of this, preference is given to students closer to graduation who demonstrate curiosity about future employment in wealth management and financial planning.
You Should Have:
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in financial planning, finance, accounting, economics, business, or a related field.
- An anticipated graduation date in Spring 2027, December 2027, or Spring 2028.
- A genuine interest in wealth management and financial planning; related coursework, or interest in pursuing CFP® certification is a plus.
- Previous work or internship experience in professional services or a similar environment is a plus. Familiarity with MoneyGuide is helpful but not required.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to organize information accurately.
- A collaborative, professional approach and sound judgment when handling confidential client information.
- Curiosity, a willingness to ask questions and receive feedback, and a commitment to learning and professional development.
- An entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to solve problems, think critically, take initiative, and contribute creative solutions.
