What You'll Do

Interns at IMA are a big deal! We understand how significant your decision on where to spend an internship is and what a positive experience can do to catapult your career. The best experiences provide true immersion in a company’s culture, access to and networking with senior leaders and industry experts, opportunities to apply what you learn through real work that drives real results, and a fun and engaging cohort to share the experience with!

With this in mind, we’ve crafted our program to allow you to engage directly in our values driven culture through company, department, and cohort events, all while being challenged with a blend of learning programs, informative networking sessions with IMA associates, and opportunities to engage in department specific work projects that have real world impact for our clients, our business, and our associates.

As an intern, your time will be divided between a core program shared with the entire cohort and specialized work, projects, and programming tailored to the department you join.

The Private Equity and M&A team is excited to announce an incredible opportunity for an intern in our 2027 summer program! This role offers the chance to gain valuable experience at the Denver office, with a flexible schedule of 4 days in the office and 1 remote.

Daily responsibilities will include:

  • Support the Private Equity & M&A specialty practice by assisting project managers throughout the due diligence process—from initial engagement to deal close.
  • Review and analyze employee benefits documentation and data, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability plans, benefit summaries, plan documents, enrollment and cost information, compliance materials, vendor agreements, and other related documentation to identify key considerations for private equity investors and corporate clients undergoing mergers or acquisitions.
  • Assist in developing employee benefits analyses and due diligence deliverables, including benefit plan comparisons, cost and contribution analyses, compliance reviews, and client-facing reports using established tools, templates, and project management workflows.
  • Conduct research on employee benefits, compliance, and market topics to support diligence findings, client questions, and broader team initiatives.
  • Gain exposure to intercompany functions by learning how various IMA teams and subject matter experts collaborate to evaluate risk and support clients throughout M&A transactions.
  • Contribute to internal projects focused on improving team resources, processes, and project manager efficiency, including the development and enhancement of tools, templates, and other resources used across the practice.

We’re proud of the success many of our former interns have had when they’ve pursued careers as IMA associates’ post-graduation and see our internship program as a key talent pipeline. Because of this, preference is given to students closer to graduation, who demonstrate a curiosity about future employment within our industry.

You Should Have:

  • Currently pursuing an Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in a program related to one of our host departments (Business, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management and Insurance)
  • Interest in insurance-related roles; involvement in insurance clubs or Gamma Iota Sigma
  • Students anticipated to graduate in Spring 2027, December 2027, or Spring 2028
  • Previous work or internship experience in a professional services or similar environment
  • An entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to problem-solve, think critically, and provide creative solutions

Benefits

This internship is designed as a learning and development opportunity and does not include participation in the medical, dental, and vision insurance, and any other benefits program that are provided solely to regular full-time associates. You will, however, enjoy IMA paid holidays and five days of LifeBalance PTO during your internship. The LifeBalance PTO is inclusive of vacation, sick time or personal time.
