What You’ll Do

Interns at IMA are a big deal! We understand how significant your decision on where to spend an internship is and what a positive experience can do to catapult your career. The best experiences provide true immersion in a company’s culture, access to and networking with senior leaders and industry experts, opportunities to apply what you learn through real work that drives real results, and a fun and engaging cohort to share the experience with!

With this in mind, we’ve crafted our program to allow you to engage directly in our values driven culture through company, department, and cohort events, all while being challenged with a blend of learning programs, informative networking sessions with IMA associates, and opportunities to engage in department specific work projects that have real world impact for our clients, our business, and our associates.

As an intern, your time will be divided between a core program shared with the entire cohort and specialized work, projects, and programming tailored to the department you join.

The Employee Benefits team is excited to announce an incredible opportunity for an intern in our 2027 summer program! This role offers the chance to gain valuable experience at the Pasadena office, under a flexible 4 days in office and 1 day work from home.

The program is intended to provide exposure across several foundational areas, including:

  • Employee Benefits Fundamentals: Build an understanding of medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, and other employee benefit programs and how these benefits fit within an employer’s overall strategy.
  • Financial Analysis: Gain exposure to the financial concepts used to evaluate employee benefit programs, including rates, claims experience, enrollment, contributions, and plan costs.
  • Funding & Risk Concepts: Develop an introductory understanding of fully insured, level-funded, and self-funded arrangements and how employers evaluate cost and risk.
  • Renewal Strategy: Learn how financial teams review renewal information, analyze changes in cost, and support the development of client renewal strategies.
  • Data & Excel Skills: Work with benefit and financial data using Excel and other tools to organize information, identify trends, and support financial analysis.
  • Client & Team Exposure: Observe how Financial Strategists collaborate with Client Executives, service teams, analysts, carriers, and other partners to support clients.
  • Professional Development: Build communication, presentation, analytical, problem-solving, and project-management skills through practical assignments

You Should Have:

  • Currently pursuing an Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in a program related to one of our host departments (Business, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management and Insurance)
  • Interest in insurance-related roles; involvement in insurance clubs or Gamma Iota Sigma
  • Students anticipated to graduate in Spring 2027, December 2027, or Spring 2028
  • Previous work or internship experience in a professional services or similar environment
  • An entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to problem-solve, think critically, and provide creative solutions
