What You'll Do

Interns at IMA are a big deal! We understand how significant your decision on where to spend an internship is and what a positive experience can do to catapult your career. The best experiences provide true immersion in a company’s culture, access to and networking with senior leaders and industry experts, opportunities to apply what you learn through real work that drives real results, and a fun and engaging cohort to share the experience with!

With this in mind, we’ve crafted our program to allow you to engage directly in our values driven culture through company, department, and cohort events, all while being challenged with a blend of learning programs, informative networking sessions with IMA associates, and opportunities to engage in department specific work projects that have real world impact for our clients, our business, and our associates.

As an intern, your time will be divided between a core program shared with the entire cohort and specialized work, projects, and programming tailored to the department you join.

The W3 team is excited to announce an incredible opportunity for an intern in our 2027 summer program! This role offers the chance to gain valuable experience at the St. Petersburg, under a normal five-day in-office schedule.

Daily responsibilities will include:

  • Split time between field shadowing with producers, managers, and other employees (50%) and completing project-based work that supports sales, service, and risk management functions (50%).
  • Assist across Personal, Commercial, and Benefits lines by conducting database cleanup and organizing accurate client information.
  • Develop and support cross-sell initiatives by identifying target clients and creating outreach strategies.
  • Contribute to marketing efforts such as mailing campaigns for personal lines clients and targeted lists for luxury homeowners.
  • Engage in prospective client research and participate in direct outreach to help generate new business opportunities.
  • Engage with carrier partners online or over the phone to assist with auditing claims contact info and generate quotes.
  • Attend department and carrier meetings to learn more about the day-to-day functions of the agency and the relationships that support its operation.
  • Dedicate time to self-paced learning and professional development tailored to your career interests, building practical knowledge of the insurance industry and the responsibilities and technical aspects of working in a professional agency environment.

We’re proud of the success many of our former interns have had when they’ve pursued careers as IMA associates’ post-graduation and see our internship program as a key talent pipeline. Because of this, preference is given to students closer to graduation, who demonstrate a curiosity about future employment within our industry.

You Should Have:

  • Currently pursuing an Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in a program related to one of our host departments (Business, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management and Insurance)
  • Interest in insurance-related roles; involvement in insurance clubs or Gamma Iota Sigma
  • Students anticipated to graduate in Spring 2027, December 2027, or Spring 2028
  • Previous work or internship experience in a professional services or similar environment
  • An entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to problem-solve, think critically, and provide creative solutions

Benefits

This internship is designed as a learning and development opportunity and does not include participation in the medical, dental, and vision insurance, and any other benefits program that are provided solely to regular full-time associates. You will, however, enjoy IMA paid holidays and five days of LifeBalance PTO during your internship. The LifeBalance PTO is inclusive of vacation, sick time or personal time.

Compensation

This position is classified as nonexempt and is paid on an hourly basis. The hourly pay range for IMA interns is 18.00 to 22.00 dollars and is determined by your expected graduating year.
