Candidates considered for this role will be located in the San Francisco, Bay Area. There will be an in-office requirement of 3x a week.

The Job

You will lead the software engineering team that protects donors and campaign organizers across GoFundMe and GoFundMe Pro. You will own end-to-end detection, content moderation, enforcement, moderation tooling, and appeals pipelines. You will build high-throughput systems that keep harmful content off the platform while preserving seamless fundraising for authentic causes.

You will operate in a high-stakes technical environment where automated decisions directly affect active fundraisers and donation flows. You will set rigorous precision and recall standards that balance automated intervention with human review, and you will hold the line on accuracy before models reach production.

You will expand platform coverage into key integrity domains, including donor and fundraiser privacy, nonprofit impersonation prevention, and high-volume coordinated abuse detection. You will deliver robust transparency reporting and appeals workflows that satisfy regulatory obligations.

  • Manage, recruit, and mentor software engineers building detection, moderation, enforcement, and appeals systems.
  • Review system architecture designs, write code, resolve critical technical incidents, and prototype new detection methods.
  • Direct the full integrity lifecycle, from signal ingestion and machine learning classification to reviewer queues, automated actions, enforcement actions, user transparency, and user appeals.
  • Track key operational metrics, including model precision, recall against human baselines, detection coverage, time to enforcement, review throughput, and appeal reversal rates.
  • Deliver technical capabilities for privacy protection, abuse prevention, transparency reporting, and regulatory compliance across global jurisdictions.
  • Build a sustainable, scalable set of internal tools that analysts and investigators use to research individual and coordinated abuse.
  • Evaluate, integrate, and manage third-party vendor platforms for content detection and case management.
  • Lead engineering incident response during platform abuse events and conduct post-mortem root-cause analyses.

You

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience writing, reviewing, and operating production software systems in an on-call capacity.
  • 4 years of experience managing software engineering teams, including hiring and performance management.
  • Experience building trust, safety, fraud, or risk mitigation systems for online consumer platforms or marketplaces.
  • Experience managing complete policy enforcement pipelines spanning signal detection, human review queues, enforcement actions, and appeals workflows.
  • Experience collaborating with policy and legal teams to convert written platform policies into executable automated systems.

Preferred

  • Experience navigating platform regulations, including the Digital Services Act, Online Safety Act, state privacy regulations, and charitable solicitation legal requirements.
  • Experience producing regulatory transparency reports and responding to data audit requests from governing authorities.
  • Experience selecting, integrating, or replacing vendor software for detection and case management.
