WHAT YOU'LL DO

We're looking for a Staff Engineer for our Messaging Experience team, responsible for building, maintaining, and evolving Canvas, our flagship product. That means supporting the orchestration and sending of messages for clients worldwide. Our products rely on sophisticated real-time and batch processing of massive amounts of data, providing analytics, automated decision-making, and an industry-leading customer engagement tool. With Canvas, our customers are provided a powerful, visual programming interface that allows them to target and tune their product’s messaging for maximum engagement across their user base.

In this role, you will bridge the gap between the customer-facing dashboard and the underlying orchestration engines which power delivery. You will split your time between division-wide technical leadership and hands-on work for critical projects. You will partner with engineering managers and technical leads embedded in teams to ensure our architecture supports a maturing suite of channels, while collaborating with senior leadership on initiatives that ensure a consistent, high-quality experience across the entire division.

In this role you will:

  • Partner on the technical vision and quality bar for the division. Drive architectural direction, define best practices, and ensure teams have a clear path to resolving persistent quality and technical debt issues
  • Lead large, ambiguous projects end-to-end. Drive efforts that span multiple teams from initial problem framing and design docs through implementation, rollout, and operational support
  • Support maturing channels. Help teams evolve their stacks to support more sophisticated marketing use cases, ensuring that foundational primitives are flexible and robust
  • Mentor engineers at every level. Simplify hard problems, connect technical decisions to business outcomes, and raise the bar through code review, architecture review, and pairing
  • Champion reliability and operability. Improve observability and tighten error handling across the dashboard and delivery layers, advocating for incremental rollouts and reducing division-wide incidents
  • Deliver code. Staff Engineers at Braze are hands-on; you will design and build the foundational systems and frameworks that act as a force multiplier for the organization

Recent and ongoing work across the division includes:

  • Developing shared frameworks for our orchestration tools to ensure a consistent experience across all messaging channels
  • Evolving the dashboard to support real-time feedback and sophisticated automated flows for building, testing, launching and analyzing user journeys
  • Building platforms and code-generation tooling that allow teams to automate delivery of sophisticated user journeys which cater to our customer’s most demanding needs

WHO YOU ARE

  • Have 7+ years of software engineering experience, including meaningful time as a technical leader influencing multiple teams or complex product systems
