Senior Manager, Software Engineering (Geospatial Platform)
Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.
ABOUT THE TEAM
Terra is Anduril’s geospatial platform team. We provide the maps, imagery, elevation, bathymetry, charts, and environmental data used across Anduril’s products. That includes command-and-control software, autonomous aircraft and undersea vehicles, and the simulation and synthetic environments we use to train and test autonomy. Terra builds the pipelines that process this data, the services that serve it in the cloud and on fully disconnected networks, and the tools that let teams bring their own data. Nearly every program at Anduril uses our work.
ABOUT THE JOB
We’re looking for a software engineering leader to run Terra. You’ll lead a team of about a dozen engineers and grow it, set the technical and product direction for geospatial data at Anduril, and own the production systems that robots and operators depend on in the field. You’ll work closely with business lines across air, maritime, and space, with our simulation teams, and with outside data and technology partners. This is a leadership role first. You should be able to go deep on architecture with your Staff engineers, but your main job is building a team that delivers.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead, hire, and develop a team of software and GIS engineers. Shape the team structure as it grows past a single team.
- Own the delivery and reliability of Terra’s production systems, including offline map pipelines for fielded autonomous systems and operational support.
- Set the roadmap for Anduril’s common map environment: imagery and terrain basemaps, nautical and aeronautical charts, vision-based navigation data, and synthetic environment reconstruction for simulation.
- Work with business lines to understand mission needs, set clear expectations, and turn requests into products other teams can use without our help.
- Own Terra’s map content strategy, working with partnerships, legal, and finance to source data and make sure our systems enforce how licensed data can be used.
- Tell the story of what Terra builds: product docs, demos, and roadmaps that drive adoption across the company.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 8+ years building software, including 3+ years managing engineering teams (8+ engineers)
- Background in geospatial, GIS, mapping, or remote sensing (GDAL, PostGIS, tiling/WMTS, raster and vector formats, terrain and elevation data
- Experience with Go, Python and cloud infrastructure (K8s, AWS, Azure)
- Track record of owning production data or serving systems with real uptime and support requirements
- Experience with large-scale data processing and storage (terabytes and up) and the tradeoffs in cost, performance, and reliability
- Strong technical judgment: able to review designs and push on architecture with senior engineers
- Clear communicator with partners, customers, and executives
- Willingness to directly support the safety and security of people in combat zones
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Shipped mapping or imagery products to external users
- Experience with offline, edge, or intermittently connected deployments
- Experience working with data vendors, content licensing, or usage tracking
- Exposure to simulation, game engines, digital twins, or perception and ML training data
