Own how ZURU's brands sound, from global packaging to every market we sell in

About ZURU

ZURU is a reimagination company. We look for categories that have stood still, then we build next-generation products and brands that set the new standard. ZURU Toys is reimagining play. ZURU Edge is reinventing everyday consumer brands. Rhodes Pet Science is reimagining pet science. ZURU Tech is leading the next building revolution.

ZURU started in 2003 with two brothers from New Zealand, and we're still founder-owned and operated today. Since then we've become the world's second-biggest privately held toy company, and nearly half of all Gen Y and Gen Z households with kids in the US own a ZURU product. Today we're 5,000 people in 34 offices, selling into more than 150 markets, backed by over 100 acres of fully automated manufacturing. And we're only getting started.

Role Impact

You will own brand copywriting across our portfolio and set the standard for how our brands sound on pack, on screen, and in market. You'll write copy for global packaging, set brand guidelines, and lead a small team delivering copy across brands and markets.

This role suits a senior communicator with a proven writing and editing background: someone who can bring a brand to life through copy and who has the eye for detail to be the final sign-off on global packaging.

Roles & Responsibilities

Brand Copywriting

Write copy for global packaging, product claims and brand taglines that cut through on shelf and deliver the brand's strategic direction

Develop effective claims and trademarked technology names for ZURU Group's brands: compelling, evidence-backed statements that highlight product benefits, differentiate from competitors and resonate with consumers' needs and values

Edit and elevate copy produced across the team, ensuring it is accurate, well-researched and achieves brand and marketing objectives across packaging, point of sale, social media, print, video and presentations

Brand Voice & Standards

Partner with the strategy and branding teams to create and implement brand guidelines, translating brand platforms, positioning and personality into tone of voice, brand pillars, taglines and brand stories

Hold every brand to those guidelines, keeping tone, messaging and branding consistent across on-pack and marketing communications, for every ZURU vertical and market

Build and maintain communication frameworks for each brand, along with usage, warning and directional copy guidelines

Maintain brand fact sheets (product names, variants and approved claims from NPD, Legal and Regulatory) for use in FAQs, customer service handbooks and brand communication frameworks

Present and articulate brand communication strategies and recommendations to internal stakeholders

Team & Process

Lead, mentor and develop a small team of writers, including an intern, setting the standard for best-in-class work and giving the feedback that helps them reach it

Own the end-to-end copy creation and briefing process, keeping copy flowing efficiently to the design team

Work with the Packaging Communications Manager to manage the copy translation workflow with third-party providers, ensuring localised market copy is accurate, on brand and correctly incorporated into artwork

Review, approve and sign off all packaging artwork across every market before dispatch to print, covering layout, tone of voice, accuracy and brand consistency

Partner with Regulatory and Compliance to set communication standards, and ensure all claims and on-pack language meet market-specific regulatory requirements

Skills & Experience

Minimum 10 years' experience in a communications, copywriting or editing role, preferably within FMCG

Outstanding writing and editing skills, with forensic attention to detail

Experience owning brand voice across a portfolio, and writing to established brand platforms

Understanding of consumer behaviour, messaging hierarchies and how to write commercially minded copy that cuts through crowded categories

Experience with packaging or regulated copy, including claims and compliance-sensitive language, is desirable
